Two New Major Education Projects Underway in Melbourne and Launceston

Marshall Day Acoustics is delighted to announce that we’re on board for the UTAS Inveresk Campus relocation project and the New Student Precinct at the University of Melbourne.

Major UTAS Inveresk Campus relocation to Launceston

Our team is once again working with John Wardle Architects to design a $260 m UTAS campus relocation, which will see its facilities move from Newham to Launceston.

The new Inveresk Campus development will incorporate three new significant campus buildings. A gateway building will create a community ‘Village’ hub with outdoor spaces, while a Teaching and Learning Building and a Science and Innovation building will be developed to support the latest pedagogical practices and flexible learning styles.

The use of timber is a key part of the design, and Marshall Day will bring our extensive experience and modelling capability to the acoustic design of the buildings.

The UTAS relocation project is the latest of several highly acclaimed education projects we have completed with John Wardle Architects. Past projects include the Learning and Teaching Building at Monash University, the Victoria University Learning Commons and Exercise Science Precinct and the Marine and Antarctic Studies Centre, also at UTAS.

Melbourne University’s New Student Precinct

We have been engaged by Lyons Architecture to provide the specialist acoustic design for the New Student Precinct, including the refurbishment of existing buildings and the design of the new Arts and Culture Building.

The $229 m New Student Precinct, located at the Parkville Campus, will deliver a series of student spaces, including social spaces, mixed-use retail, food and beverage outlets and contemporary study spaces. The Arts and Culture Building forms a significant part of the development and will feature:

  • 400-seat proscenium-arch Union Theatre
  • 140-seat, black box theatre with cinematic projection
  • Large flat-floor event and performance space

Building on our track record as education and performing arts specialists

We’re very proud that of the fact that Marshall Day has been involved in delivering high quality acoustic, AV, and theatre design solutions for almost every leading University in Australia.

Our recent project portfolio includes many outstanding educational facilities, including:

  • New Conservatorium of Music building for University of Melbourne
  • The Stables, Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne
  • The Gateway building for Trinity College, Melbourne
  • New Learning and Teaching Building for Monash University, Clayton Campus
  • Refurbishment and extensions to the Alexander Theatre at Monash University
  • Renovation of teaching facilities and student spaces at RMIT University
  • New 950 seat multi-purpose venue at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Our team is excited about the benefit we can bring to the design teams involved in the delivery of both the New Student Precinct and the UTAS Inveresk campus relocation. Each development will provide first class learning facilities for the next generation of university students.
